CHAROLOTTE NC MAYOR DISCONTINUES PRAYER AT CITY COUNCIL MEETINGS

Mayor Jennifer Roberts (D) of Charlotte NC has caused confusion after announcing that prayer will be discontinued at city council meetings.   "“We are not going to have an invocation this evening. We are going to change the way we conduct it on the expert advice of our attorney with concern over freedom of religion and separation of church and state and other recent court rulings,” she told those gathered."  However, the city's attorney later corrected the Mayor, stating"“Just to be clear, I have not concluded and have not advised that the Council’s invocation practice is unconstitutional. And I did not advise you to end the practice."  VAIB supports the rights of government leaders in such cases to open their meetings with prayer.  Read more here:
