POSSIBLE CHANGES TO TRANSGENDER POLICY IN MAINE IS PROBLEMATIC

Schools in Portland, ME are considering a new transgender policy which will require that teachers respect the wishes of transgender students even in cases where the student's wishes go against those of their parent's.   The "Transgender and Gender Expansive Student Policy" states that the school district will “abide by the wishes of the student with regard to their gender identity and gender expression while at school."  VAIB opposes policies in cases such as this that strips parental rights and violates the privacy of other students.  Read more here:
