Registration open for ONE Voice for Liberties Conference

Our annual conference is September 17-18 and we already have seven speakers lined up! There is no charge to come, so join us as we are challenged with some tough topics and encouraged to be an effective voice. Thursday and Friday evening David Andersen of Capitol Commission will encourage us from the Word of God, plus we hope to have an additional legislative speaker each night to address important issues.

Join us again at Landmark Baptist Church (Pastor Don Sumpter), 4000 Creighton Rd, Richmond VA 23223 on September 17-18. The conference opens on Thursday evening at 7PM. The meeting will continue on Friday from 9AM to 9PM. The annual business meeting which is open to everyone will be at 9AM on Friday.

If you need lodging, please make reservations by July due to a special cycling event which expects to bring thousands of visitors during the same time. Unfortunately, VAIB is unable to secure special pricing.

Register now or call our office at 804-299-3986.

Legislative Update:

“Veto” Session on April 15

Two special events occur on April 15: federal taxes are due and the General Assembly will be back. I will be at the Richmond Capitol encouraging legislators to vote biblical values regarding some amendments and vetoes offered by the Governor.

Thankfully, the following bills we supported have been signed by the Governor:

  • HB1366 (Campbell) Public hearing required before permitting sex-offender on school or other property.
  • HB1754 (LaRock) Testing reporting to local school superintendents of home schooled students.
  • HB1964 (Hugo) & SB1188 (Obenshain) Commercial sex-trafficking penalties.
  • SB690 (Black & Barker) Protect chaplains of VA National Guard re sermons.
  • SB1056 (Howell) Child pornography and obscenity penalties.
  • SB1383 (Black) Protects personal information in DOE of religious exempt home schooled students.
  • SB1403 (Martin) Evidence of progress for home schooled students.

There are other bills of concern to VAIB which were vetoed or amended by the Governor. Those bills are being monitored but VAIB has taken no position for or against these bills. For more details on these and other bills, go to our web site vaib.org/education/legislative-update.
