Some Legislators Call It Quits!

Dear Pastor,

Some Legislators Call It Quits

If I have spoken in your church, you may have heard me ask, “How many of you would be willing to serve as a legislator if everyone quit?” As is fairly normal for Virginia, several good legislators will not be running for re-election this fall: Sal Iaquinto of Virginia Beach (served since 2006); Joe Johnson of Abingdon (served since 1990); Don Merricks of Martinsville (served since 2008); John Cox of Ashland (served since 2010).

By now you may have heard that Lt. Governor Bill Bolling will not run for Governor as an independent in the November 2013 elections. We are thankful for his many years of service and help for conservative issues. Each had his reasons for serving; the same for leaving. Pray for strong conservatives to be elected to continue the work these men have done.

Churches & “Obamacare”

No matter what we may think of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (PPACA), also known as "Obamacare," it is the law and churches should be aware of how it may affect them. To find out more, follow this link on the CLA web site: http://www.christianlaw.org/cla/index.php/articles/comments/health_care_at_what_cost

Are you coming to the 37th Annual Meeting September 19-20, 2013? Check out our web site www.vaib.org for more information. Make plans to come and invite your church members and other pastors as well to hear Dr. David Gibbs Jr. of the Christian Law Association!

In His Service,

Eddy Aliff
