OHIO FAIRNESS ACT - FAIR TO WHOM?
Released: Tuesday, February 13, 2018
HB 160, also known as the "Ohio Fairness Act" has been introduced in the lower chamber of the state's General Assembly. The proposed bill is intended to prohibit sexual or gender discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, and public accommodations. However, as the article highlights, it actually "creates a discriminatory environment against people of faith in the marketplace and in ministry", with the possibility of shutting down Christian ministries in the area of adoption and homeless shelters, for example. VAIB continues to pay close attention to bills such as this that are introduced in other states, and is committed to continue fighting for the Freedom of Religion as guaranteed by the First Amendment for the citizens of Virginia.
