Dear Friends,

I hope you’ve had a great summer and have enjoyed spending time with family as much as Carol and I have. Now, let me cover a few things quickly as I’m sure your time is tight:

·         Register today for our ONE Voice for Liberties Conference, September 28-29 at Landmark Baptist Church, 4000 Creighton Rd, Richmond. This is later than previous years, so be sure to note this on your calendar going forward. Future dates are the last Thursday and Friday of September: Sep. 27-28, 2018; Sep. 26-27, 2019; Sep. 24-25, 2020.

·         Abingdon VAIB Luncheon: Pastors in and around the Abingdon area, join me for a free luncheon and VAIB update on August 12 from 11:30 am to 2:30 pm at The Community Center of Abingdon, 300 Senior Drive NE, Abingdon VA 24210. Register today by sending me an email with the names of pastors who will be attending. Senator Ben Chafin has confirmed he will be there to answer questions. Others have been invited.

·         New Laws Go Into Effect July 1: The one new law of concern to VAIB is the fingerprint background check for religious exempt day cares. Nothing need be done until the Department of Social Services produces regulations which may take up to a year. If your church has a religious exempt day care, every worker and volunteer will be required to have the new fingerprint background check which will probably cost about $50, so start putting aside money to prepare for this financial impact.

·         New VAIB representative, Joe Naylor: I am thankful for the help Joe and Marty Naylor have been in reporting to churches. While my schedule has all mornings filled and a few evenings open, Joe is still available! Contact our office to schedule him in your church!

Your voice for Christian liberties!
